On December 12, 2025, SK On and Ford Motor have reached an agreement to restructure the operations of BlueOval SK, their 50-50 joint venture established for battery production in the United States. The joint venture currently operates two plants in Kentucky and one in Tennessee.
On December 11, SK On announced that the two companies will independently own and operate the battery plants under the revised structure: SK On will take over the Tennessee facility, while Ford will assume control of the Kentucky plants. The agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of the first quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals and completion of follow-up procedures.
Following the split, SK On plans to maintain a close strategic partnership with Ford. The Tennessee plant, with an annual capacity of 45GWh, holds a natural advantage in supplying batteries to Ford due to its geographic proximity.
SK On stated that ending the joint venture with Ford aims to enhance productivity, operational flexibility, and responsiveness, enabling the company to better adapt to evolving market and customer demands.
