On August 28, South Korean battery company Samsung SDI announced it had reached an agreement with General Motors (GM) to build a joint electric vehicle battery plant in Indiana.
Under the agreement, the two companies will invest approximately $3.5 billion (US) in the new battery plant, which is initially planned to have an annual production capacity of 27 GWh. Under the expansion plan, it aims to start mass production of batteries in 2027, with an expected increase in annual capacity to 36 GWh.

GM’s Vice President of Batteries and Battery Packs, Kurt Kelly, stated he has worked with the CEO of Samsung SDI to finalize the battery joint venture.
