It is reported that POSCO Group, a leading South Korean steel and battery materials manufacturer, plans to invest in Tanzania’s second-largest natural graphite mine project.
This project, developed by an Australian company, aims to reduce reliance on graphite imports from China. POSCO International Corp., representing the group’s trading division, has agreed to acquire a 19.9% stake in Black Rock Mining Ltd. for $40 million (US). Black Rock Mining is actively advancing the Mahenge graphite project in Tanzania, where it holds an 84% stake. The project is expected to contain approximately six million tons of natural graphite.
