Recently, South Korean battery and energy research company SNE Research released the data related to 2023 global power battery usage.

The data shows that the total global power battery usage in 2023 was approximately 705.5GWh, representing a 38.6% year-on-year increase.

It is worth noting that the agency predicted at the beginning of last year that the global power battery installation capacity would reach 749GWh in 2023. However, due to the decrease in downstream terminal demand, the final data was slightly lower than expected.

From the above list, it is obvious that Chinese companies continue to dominate the global market.

The top 10 companies in terms of power battery installation capacity are: CATL, BYD, LG Energy Solution, Panasonic, SK On, CALB, Samsung SDI, Gotion High-Tech, EVE Energy, and Sunwoda.

It is worth mentioning that global car companies are accelerating their cooperation with Chinese battery companies.

Recently, CATL has continuously received large orders from various European local car companies such as Volkswagen, Stellantis, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, while BYD will also provide batteries for Tesla’s European factory. Its Atto 3 model and Dolphin model are selling well in overseas markets, further widening the gap with other battery companies.

In the TOP10 list, the market share of Chinese companies in 2023 reached 63.5%.

And the market share of the three South Korean battery companies, LG Energy Solution, SK On, and Samsung SDI, was 23.1%, a decrease of 1.6% compared to the same period last year.

However, thanks to the global sales expansion of models like Audi Q8 e-Tron, BMW iX, Hyundai IONIQ 5, etc., the three South Korean battery companies still achieved an increase in installation capacity.

On the other hand, Japanese battery companies are now represented solely by Panasonic. With a total annual cumulative installation volume of 44.9GWh, its market share has decreased from 7% to 6.4%. Nevertheless, the installation volume has increased by 26% year-on-year.
