On October 29, 2025, Sunwoda announced that its subsidiary, Sunwoda Power, will further expand production capacity in Thailand with a second-phase green energy lithium-ion battery plant project. The investment, capped at $482 million (US), will be funded through self-owned and self-raised capital by Sunwoda Power and its Hong Kong subsidiary. The final investment amount will be subject to actual project expenditure.
The Thailand Phase II project will be jointly funded by Sunwoda Power Technology Co., Ltd. and its Hong Kong subsidiary, and implemented through the local project company, Sunwoda Automotive Energy Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. With a planned annual production capacity of 17.4 GWh, the project includes the construction of a new production park and supporting infrastructure. The funding structure consists of 29% equity (around $138 million US) and 71% bank loans (approximately $343 million US).
This move follows the completion of trial production at Sunwoda’s Phase I project in Thailand, which involved a $259 million (US) investment and has laid the groundwork for Phase II. The new project remains subject to outbound investment filings in China and relevant local approvals in Thailand.
The investment is aimed at strengthening Sunwoda’s global production footprint, meeting demand from international customers, and enhancing its competitiveness in overseas markets. Through continued expansion of its Thai production base, the company expects to further increase its share in the global new energy supply chain.
