On January 2, 2025, SGMW announced that its first power battery—MAGIC Battery, developed by SGMW Indonesia, rolled off the production line on December 31, 2024. This makes SGMW the first Chinese automotive brand to produce power batteries in Indonesia.
According to SGMW, the battery production project took four and a half months from initiation to mass production. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the SKRP and SGMW Indonesia teams, the installation and commissioning of the battery production line were completed in just 15 days, leading to the commencement of production.
SKRP was established in April 2022 as a joint venture between Tsingshan Holding Group and a subsidiary of SAIC Group. The second-largest shareholder of SKRP is Rept Battero, a subsidiary of Tsingshan Holding Group.
With the start of MAGIC Battery production in Indonesia, this not only marks SGMW Indonesia’s successful localization of battery production, but also signals a new milestone in Rept Battero’s global expansion.
In 2024, SGMW Indonesia achieved 13,492 units of new energy vehicle retail sales, representing a 27% year-on-year growth. And in 2025, SGMW Indonesia will focus on its “Integrated Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand” strategy to further break into overseas markets.
It is worth noting that in addition to Rept Battero supplying batteries for SGMW, the company also works with several other battery suppliers.
According to data from the Power Battery Application Committee, from January to November 2024, SGMW’s main battery suppliers include Rept Battero, Gotion High-Tech, Zenergy, Do-fluoride, Sunwoda, CALB, Great Power, CATL, Phylion Battery, and SVOLT, etc. Among them, Rept Battero, Gotion High-Tech, and Zenergy account for more than 90% of the supply, highlighting their strong market competitiveness.
