On November 10, 2025, according to a report by D Daily, the investment in the US battery joint venture plant between Samsung SDI and General Motors (GM) may face another delay.

The report states that Samsung SDI has postponed equipment orders originally scheduled for the end of this year. The exact timing for placing the equipment orders has not yet been determined, but it is reportedly expected to occur early next year with selected equipment partners.

It is noted that on August 28, 2024, Samsung SDI and GM formally reached and signed an agreement in Seoul to establish a joint venture electric vehicle battery plant. The two companies plan to invest $3.5 billion (US) in building a battery plant in New Carlisle, Indiana. The facility will consist of five production lines with a total capacity of 36 GWh, targeting the start of mass production in 2027.

According to this plan, Samsung SDI had intended to select an equipment company early this year and to begin investments in the H1 of the year, but this timeline has already been pushed back. This delay marks the second time Samsung SDI has postponed equipment orders.

An industry insider mentioned that the current operational plans for the joint venture remain unaffected, but if the investment continues to be delayed, the mass production timeline could potentially be postponed.
