During the recent “SMART ENERGY WEEK” exhibition held in Tokyo, Japan, NExT-e Solutions Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “NEXTES”) formally signed a strategic procurement agreement with Envision AESC. According to the agreement, NEXTES will purchase a total of 1.5 GWh of battery cells specifically designed for energy storage from Envision AESC over three years, starting in 2026. These battery cells will primarily be used for NEXTES’s project deliveries in Japan and the global market, securing a stable cell supply to support its further expansion in the independent energy storage markets of Japan and worldwide.
As an energy technology company, NEXTES specializes in developing long-life, high-cost-performance energy storage products leveraging its core proprietary technologies, including ACB, BMS, AMB, and IHS. Its offerings cover grid-side and commercial & industrial (C&I) applications, while also providing second-life utilization and full life-cycle management services. Notably, five of Japan’s top ten electric power companies are among NEXTES’s major shareholders, lending significant industry attention to its market strategy and technological roadmap.
Japan’s energy storage market has entered a period of rapid growth since 2025. Driven by long-standing reliance on fossil fuels (accounting for approximately 70% of electricity generation), as well as the challenges of peak load regulation caused by frequency differences between the eastern and western regions, and a continuously increasing share of renewable energy, demand for large-scale energy storage systems in Japan has surged dramatically. To address the challenges of curtailment of wind and solar power and grid stability, the Japanese government is actively promoting the implementation of energy storage projects through policies such as long-term contracts and subsidies.
However, the Japanese market imposes extremely high entry barriers for energy storage products. The JIS system, which governs compliance with grid-level safety standards in Japan, is renowned for its “meticulous detail” and “dual compliance” requirements, imposing stringent demands regarding equipment safety, regulatory compliance, and transportation protocols.
Particularly given the context of frequent natural disasters and Japan’s unique grid structure, energy storage products must not only demonstrate superior technical specifications but also pass rigorous fire safety certifications and tests of full life-cycle management capabilities. Since 2025, energy storage systems co-developed by NEXTES and Tokyo Electric Power Group, designed specifically for the Japanese grid, have been progressively delivered. These systems meet specific local market requirements, including a 13-foot size, 23-ton weight, and a 20-year capacity warranty.
As the cell supplier for this collaboration, Envision AESC’s products have obtained major global safety certifications, including JIS, IEC, and UL standards—such as JIS C 8715-2, Fire Defense Hazard Category 303, IEC 62619, UL 1642, UL 1973, and UL 9540A—fully complying with regulatory requirements in Japan, Europe, and North American power markets, and demonstrating global delivery capability.
NEXTES has set a high bar for supplier selection, explicitly choosing to collaborate exclusively with leading global energy storage cell manufacturers. Envision AESC has become its strategic partner based on continuous product innovation, a proven long-term safety record, global manufacturing footprint, and competitive advantages in low-carbon solutions. To date, Envision AESC has delivered over 100 GWh of energy storage battery cells, collaborating deeply with top-tier global integrators such as Envision Energy, Fluence, Nidec, and NEXTES. Its products are deployed in over 400 projects across more than 20 countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore. In 2025, Envision AESC achieved mass production of the industry’s first 500+ Ah and 700+ Ah large-capacity energy storage cells, continuing to lead the development of next-generation energy storage products.
This partnership signifies a strategic upgrade of NEXTES’s core supply chain. Through the strategic alliance with Envision AESC, NEXTES will further secure high-quality cell production capacity, enabling it to offer more competitive, high-quality energy storage solutions to global customers. Concurrently, through this collaboration, Envision AESC continues to expand its commercial footprint in the global energy storage market, further solidifying its leading position as a key player in the global energy storage sector and the energy transition.
