On June 3, Envision AESC, a global leader in battery technology, officially commenced operations at its new gigafactory in Douai, France. The inauguration ceremony was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and Zhang Lei, Chairman of Envision Group.

The company’s high-performance battery technology has already contributed to the success of the Renault R5, France’s best-selling electric vehicle. With the first phase of the Douai gigafactory now operational — delivering an initial 10GWh of annual capacity — the facility will supply premium batteries for 200,000 EVs each year, accelerating Europe’s transition to low-carbon mobility.

President Macron remarked: “In Douai, we are writing a new chapter in France’s reindustrialization together with Envision. As a flagship ‘Choose France’ project, Envision AESC’s gigafactory represents a transformative initiative that combines innovation, growth, and sustainability in France’s green industrial evolution. It will reshape a region and inspire a generation.”
