According to a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Bolivia on November 27, 2024, Hong Kong CBC Investment Limited (CBC) and Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos(YLB), Bolivia’s state-owned lithium company, signed a services contract for the production of lithium carbonate in the Salar de Uyuni on November 26.
According to sources, the contract is valued at $1 billion (US). CBC will build two lithium carbonate production plants in the southwest of Bolivia. These plants will be located on Bolivia’s vast Uyuni Salt Flat, with one having an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of lithium carbonate, and the other 25,000 tons. The Bolivian government will hold a 51% stake in the project.
