According to statistics, China’s total battery sales from January to September 2024 reached 685.7 GWh, marking a year-on-year increase of 42.5%. Of this, exports accounted for 126.1 GWh, growing 37.8% year-on-year. Additionally, power battery sales reached 525.3 GWh, up 26.1% year-on-year, and made up 76.6% of total sales. Sales of other types of batteries amounted to 160.3 GWh, representing a significant year-on-year rise of 148.7%, accounting for 23.4% of the total. These figures reflect rapid and favorable growth across various metrics.
Notably, China’s strong performance in the global battery market can largely be attributed to ongoing research and advancements in new battery materials, particularly in the lithium battery sector, where this factor has become increasingly prominent.
In fact, the safety, performance, and cost-efficiency of battery products are heavily influenced by breakthroughs and choices in core materials and manufacturing processes.
“Fundamental material innovation is the driving force behind the new energy sector’s progress,” stated Yongwei Li, Chairman of Avmater Tech. Based on insights into industry drivers, Li highlighted that composite current collectors (including composite aluminum foil and copper foil) are regarded within the industry as materials capable of significantly enhancing battery cell safety and performance. Their adoption is expected to help battery companies further improve cell safety, increase energy density, boost production efficiency, and reduce material costs.
